Russia increased pulp, paper and paperboard output in the first quarter

26 May. 2020

Rosstat published data on industrial production for the 1st quarter of 2020.

Industrial production in the 1st quarter of 2020 increased by 1.5% compared to January-March 2019, the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) reports.

In Q1 2020, Russia produced 2.2 million tons of pulp (+ 5.1% compared to January-March 2019) and 2.4 million tons of paper and cardboard (+ 5%). Corrugated packaging production increased by 3.5% compared to the first quarter of 2019.

The development of the crisis in the global economy and the introduction of an extra weekend since March 30 did not have a decisive effect on the dynamics of production in the first quarter of 2020. In March, the demand for basic Russian export goods did not show a significant decrease. At the same time, due to the effect of “rush demand” in certain markets, the production of corresponding goods has noticeably increased. In addition, the use of available stocks of raw materials by enterprises allowed them to reduce the pressure of rising currency prices on imported goods.
